What does optics in computer engineering entail?

I'm just curious how different it is than the physics branch of optics and am interested in a basic overview on the subject. Any help is appreciated!

In EE, optics is usually taken to mean lasers (particularly semiconductor but also gas and other solid state lasers) or optical systems used for imaging or communications (e.g. photonic circuits or optical fibers). It's not very different from "optics" in applied physics. The rest of physics, however, is more concerned with fundamental phenomena relating to light than devices.
