As the title suggest, what does pos-doc means? When is one considered a post-doc fellow? How long would one obtain a post-doc?

Postdocs are jobs you take until you get an actual job. Usually, you’re gunning for a faculty position and need to improve your research record. Despite the fancy-sounding title, I hardly consider having a postdoc a good thing because the salary is pretty awful and the hours are longer than graduate school.

LOL, I think its pretty difficult to get a faculty position without a post-doc except you a genius or einstein. Most profs I have met went through the post-doc route. Got to pay your dues. You know professors unfortunate for budding PhD students live a very long life compared to other careers. One of my former research advisors is over 80 and looks way healthier than I am

Though I have a followup question pertaining to this that your statement reminded me of. I think I will make a thread and ask.
