What does she mean?

An acquaintance told me that she didn’t think I was from the local area because I had an “air” around me that made her think I was from New York. This topic came up because she was surprised to learn that I am in fact from this area. I plan to ask her about it (this exchange was done through Facebook). What does she mean by this? How would you characterize the air of a New Yorker?

I´d call BS. The girl was probably just making small talk…

No, I’m really curious what an “air of a New Yorker” is supposed to be like. Does she think I’m aloof?

i think most new yorkers are seen as unfriendly

Dude.

You are looking way to into this.

If you over analyze this imagine when she gives you your first compliment…

yea, i totally agree

If you are that worked up about it, just ask her… :p

Straight boys are so funny. They somehow think that since I’m a guy, I’m taking her comment as an indication of romantic interest… that I’m the victim of evolutionary urges explained by the error-management theory. Consequently, they put me down. Lol, this is NOT the case at all- I’m gay!

I’m truly interested just in the social/cultural meaning of the phrase.

…

You are still over analyzing this.

How do you know she’s ever even been to new york?

She could just be using a media stereotype.

Really…just ask her, especially if you’re gay it’s not like she’ll think you took it the wrong way?

In the largest poll ever conducted by world wide travelers New York was voted the friendliest city in the world. Friendliness + sophistication! I’d just say, “Thank you.”

Damn straight. The people who depict New Yorkers as rude and dismissive are just jealous or pussies.

new yorkers are the ****

new yorkers are often stereotyped as pushy, highly opinionated, loud, rude, and braggadocious

She said she can’t really explain it, but that I’m “regal,” and that’s part of the image I give. I would prefer to make that a compliment :)

People have told me the exact same thing (even the “regal” thing too), and i still have no idea what they mean. I’m assuming it’s a compliment though, because I live in the boondocks and resent this area haha.

She means you’re a snob and rude to people. Egg her car.

Hahahahahaha.

She probably means your mannerisms or sublties in your voice or actions make you seem like you’re from New York.

Wth does it matter, anyway?
