What does Stanford prioritize?
Are grades the most important?

Stanford considers many factors in their admission process, including GPA, standardized test scores, extracurriculars, background, letters of recommendation, and a few other things. None are necessarily more important than others and none will make or break your chances individually.

“If you don’t have a 3.9 and a 2380, you have no chance lol”
-_- really? That’s completely untrue. Here’s the statistics for last year:

I’m going to have to disagree with john. No single factor will make your chances individually, unless you’ve got something ridiculous going for you, like a cure for cancer or something that doesn’t apply to 99.99% of us.

However, a single factor can and will break your chances. Things like a 2.5 GPA, a 20 ACT, etc, or very poor essays, the works.

Stanford is probably the most holistic of HYPSCM, and as such, you can get in with lower grades and scores. That also means higher grades and scores are not as big an advantage as at say, Caltech. A lot of it is on your essays, and how you portray yourself in your application (hint: passion is important)
