What Does Stern Look For?

I am really interested in going to Stern, and will be applying ED1 this year (HS Class of 13), but am a little scared some of the stats of the people applying that I have read on here. I am wondering what exactly is Stern looking for in an applicant?

I have a decent SAT score 2120, a mediocre GPA 3.5 UW, but some solid Business ECs: Paid Finance writer for top internet investing website over 100,000 article views, President of school FBLA, Independent stock/ derivatives trader (subject of my common app essay), Perfect score on national financial literacy test, and some other random stuff. Finance is my passion and I have tried my best to demonstrate that through my ec’s. Will my EC’s be enough to make up for my average stats?

There is nothing preventing you from retaking the SAT. It is not law school, they don’t average your superscore from each time you take it, rather they take the best subsections from however many times you sat the exam (within reason, five attempts is probably the upper limit) to give you the best superscore possible. The SAT is only a test of innate intelligence for a select few people; for most, it is a test of preparation. If you are not applying until ED almost a full year from now, you have an incredible amount of time to master the material and score in the 99th percentile.

Your GPA is not that stellar, but you have a chance to compensate for that as I just mentioned with the SAT. Your ECs are very relevant, so I think if you bring your SAT up, you will have a solid profile.
