What does the buisness world require??

Hey all,

im in HS and need to start thinking of where i want to go in life and what to major in. It used to be journalism but i let that go for several reasons. Now im really into buisness. I want to go into the buisness world. I have many relatives who are ‘buisness buff’s’, and they make it seem rlly interesting. I am rlly into economics and politics and the stock market and buisness so i think i would do well, except for one thing: im not good at math. Im rlly good at history/english, but math is worst subject by far. HAve like 630 M on the sat and B- regents score. And only B’s and even a C in class. IS that gonna kill my chances of being good in the buisness world? how much of a factor is math? some tell me much some tell me little…

help!

bump…bump

bumpbumpbump

btw i have no clue what “bump” means but i see everyone do it lol

To be good in the business world, you have to go beyond what your HS stats are. After a while, those are pointless.

To be good in the business world, you have to have certain intangibles. You have to be cunning, calculating, have a good business sense. You have to learn the game, and play it well.

first learn to spell “really”. if you want to appear serious, to whoever it is, make sure you can spell and use grammar correctly…

i get that comment so often on CC. Why must you be such a grouch SeaHawk- oh no! i didnt take the time to fully type out a word! You really got to lighten up. And im assuming youve never txted before on a cell phone…

We’re not texting on cell phones here…

WE’RE ON CC!

Well high school does not matter, grades don’t matter. This is business, not medicine, law, or engineering. What matter is your personality and brains. You need to be confident, be quick and playful with words. You also need to know how to read people, and be open to different cultures. Also, you have to be cold-hearted sometimes.

Some of the people I know who were in business did poor in high school. One example was someone who majored in music, and had a 2.9 GPA. Yet is getting payed more, and in a higher position than many who went to elite schools and had 3.7’s. I’m saying do what you love, but be good at it and you will get far.

And you have connections, use them. There’s a saying in business, “Its now WHAT you know, its WHO you know”. Ask your relatives to intern, and work your way up.

to be good in anything in real life, one must learn on the job, not in the classroom

The classroom only helps you so far, you have to go farther than just remembering facts and things from classes.

People “bump” their threads to get them back to the top of the forum

What is “the business world”?

■■■■ can you at least spell it right.
i thought you were just making a typo but you spelled it wrong the same way every time -_-

You have to form relationships and know people who can get you places

There are too many things that can be classified under the broad “business world” for anyone to be able to accurately answer your question. What specifically in business do you want to do?

Excellent brown-nosing skills will get you far.

But really, I don’t know much about business.

haha i totally forgot about this thread. uh, thanks for the answers guys. and my bad for mispelling business, it was like two yrs ago i was only like 5 yrs old then, u couldve given the littler me a break. hes just a kid.

and anyway, my primary question was regarding the importance of math in the business world, and how to decide at the highschool stage in life whether business is ur ‘thing’. I mean, as ppl said in this thread, if business has nothing to do with anything conrete like highschool grades, then how are we supposed to make an educated decision at to what we major in? i’m basically guessing that i’ll be good at business

and p.s. i still support writing abbreviated on CC, and typing as if u were txting. this is a forum not a school paper. all u nerds who get offended from spelling errors can go play world of warcraft or somthing

hve u cnsidred tht wrtng lyk dis is not stndrd txting eithr?

so yh, ill go play or somthing. LOL

This attitude isn’t going to get you far in the business world. But if you really want to know if you’re cut out for “the business world”, try DECA competitions. I made it to nationals in two of the toughest sections last year.
