what does this korean name mean?

hey i have a korean friend and his name is shun nam park, and im tryna figure out what it that means in english. does anybody have any clue or know where i could find out? thanks

–or is it just a name that has no meaning?

im korean and i can speak fluently and read and write

however, i think you need to translate the korean name into chinese in order to understand what each character means to get the meaning of the name

actually u might just have to get the meaning of each group of characters (shun is one group, nam is one group, park is one group) in korean and u could get the meaning as well

I’m korean and most korean names have meaning but its really hard to figure it out because each character can have so many diffrent meanings, so if you want to know, you better ask him or his parents.

hey i’m korean, but i was adopted and i found out my real name is suk buyung ik… what does that mean??

yea my friend was adopted too and doesnt know what his name means, and neither do his american parents

okay, most korean names are based on chinese characters, but not all of them. ie. mine is purely korean and can’t be written out in chinese characters.
I know for guy names there’s a certain pattern you follow (if you decide to use it that is), so there may not be a specific meaning. I actually need to relook into this.
And collegeboundkorean, Korean names are usually 2-3 syllables so are you sure your name is Suk Buyung Ik? You should ask a Korean adult bc they’ll likely know. I’ll ask my dad though.
There are also many clans within Korean last names. For instance, two korean kids might have the same last name ,Ahn ,but have no relation whatsoever.

Alright, hope I helped and I’ll get back to you on your name.

My Last name, AHN, for example means tranquility. But AHN could mean other things as well. There are many other letters that sound just like AHN which holds different meanings. You just have to see the letter to figure out what it means.

i’m half korean!

my mom’s maiden name is “woo” and i have no idea what it means. i bet it can be traced back to chinese though. my korean name (which nobody ever uses everyone just calls me Jennifer or Jenny) is “hae-rree” kinda like “heidi” but not an “hi” but an “eh” and the rolling r sounds kinda like a “d” sound.

my favorite korean names (for girls) are:
Song-heh (like the actress song-he gyo!)
Jin-ju (means “pearl”)
Jahng-mee ( means rose")
Hae-mee (“hemmy”)
Soo-jin
Jeen-soo
Hae-jin
Shee-la (like the shilla dynasty!)

what does sungkook mean?

lol…i like how everybody has questions, but nobody has answers

There is almost no way of finding out what korean names mean because as a few posters said before, you pretty much have to translate them into chinese characters, unless the name is an actual korean word. (I know many people named “rose” and “pearl,” in fact.) Even after you do that, the characters become only words. You might be able to figure out the meaning with those words alone, but you might also be completely wrong because words can connote different messages and can work differently in different situations. You really have to ask the person or his parents for the history of the name or for knowing how the words work together as a name to form a precise meaning.
