What does this mean

My daughter applied to USC’s school of cinematic arts script writing for movies and television. Only 26 people or so get accepted a year.

After writing oodles of scripts, essays etc to go with her application, the school has asked for her first semester senior year grades. The grades for that semester were the worst she had in HS and we though they would kill her chances. She is an A B student in a seven point grade scale state.

A week later she is requested to send our 1040 2012 filings, her schedule C and the income and expenses declaration form which is asking very detailed information on our finances.

Now why are they asking all this information? Does it mean she has a good possibility of getting in and that is why they are looking at whether we will need help with tuition?

It seems crazy they will do so much work with the financial aid process on someone they are going to decline.

I am getting ahead of myself thinking it means she was accepted.

I am biting my nails thinking about this.

Thanks for the input.

Assuming you applied for need based financial aid, this is all normal regardless of whether she will be accepted or not. Most parents out here are sending that same type of information to every single school on their kid’s application list. Some schools have their own forms/request more info – but they typically request the info from ALL applicants who want need based aid. So usually it does not mean a thing in terms of admissions chances… sorry.

Oh, it is also normal that they asked for first term grades (generally called the “mid-term report” and again… pretty much every college asks for it for every kid). So it does not mean anything for or against her application that they asked – although a slip in grades that first semester can work against a student in the admissions process.

Thanks for the input.

She did not apply for need based. She did apply for the scholarship deadline. Is that the same thing?

It seems like this school is asking for so much. I mean they want to know which part of my mortgage goes to principal and how much to interest…WHAT!!! ( among other very detailed information).

She applied to UCLA and NYU and those schools are not asking for so much information.

At this point I feel like they know all my family’s habits!! hahahaha.
