what essay should he write for college

My son and I are in a major disagreement regarding his college essay.Any advice

What ever he writes should give the admissions people further information about who he is.

No advice unless we know what his idea is vs. your idea.

A friend who is a school guidance counselor at a private school advised my D to write something only she could write.

Without more information from you … I’d have to say, butt out – it’s his college application, not yours. With more info, I might change my mind… maybe his idea really is stupid or wrong-headed – but parents often have the wrong idea of what colleges want to see in an essay. Often the very best thing an applicant can do is to submit a 'risk" essay, because it helps bring life to the application and makes it stand out from the rest.
