What ethnic group do I qualify under?

Middle eastern or Asian. If I were you I woudn’t put Asian because that is an automatic 50% minus to your chance of getting in. Most people would think you’re an orient.

My dad is a sampling statistician (yeah I know he’s a bit of a loser), and I remember being surprised when he told me that Middle Easterners are “supposed” to put white when asked for their race. I’m guessing this is because although the Middle East is technically part of Asia, Middle Easterners are genetically and socioeconomically more closely related to whites. Many Middle Easterners, however, put “other.” If you believe that specifying your exact ethnicity is really important for colleges to know, I would do so. Otherwise put white.

this is proof. taken from the UC application:

I was also wondering that!
All my grandparents (with the exception of one from lebanon) are Palestinian. My dad was born in Jordan, and my mom in Syria. I was born in the US. If I were you, and there was no choice for Middle Eastern, I would chose “other”. Middle Eastern people are technically considered Caucasian, which is white, but I dont know if i would choose “white” on my application.

Sweet! The UC app has Vietnamese on it!
