What ethnic group do I qualify under?

Both of my parents are from palestine. what ethnic group do i fall under for college admissions?

-dukedreamer

um…white and jewish…unless you don’t look white…

Arabian
But it depends on your parents’ ethnics, not where they are from
It sucks if both your parents are Koreans or Chinese from Palestine
JKJK…

Arabian is not a choice (neither is middle eastern). The only choices are: white, african american, hispanic, asian, native american, other. My parents and grandparents are from palestine.

write it in “other”

/thread

.

My friends have the same problem. They put in Asian (because technically they are in asia) or other.

I am not sure, but I know some people from Lebanon who look just like any other American. Also, Israelis are considered white.

def. white

if you put white or asian, though, you’re not getting URM status at most schools. maybe putting “other” would be helpful

Other and than say Middle Eastern or Arabic…
Unless you are Jewish (Isreali-like) than probably white, but you probably aren’t considering you said Palestine.

Other. And right “Middle Eastern”. They usually are a mix.

Does the “Middle East” belong to the continent of Asia or Europe? I look at Jordan and Saudi Arabia, among the other countries and I get confused…

The last time a Jew called himself or herself Palestinian was about 80 years ago.

What about Iranians? Are they considered white?

Iran actually translates to “Land of the Aryans” so I’m sure you could put white. But “middle eastern” might give you a slight edge. Not sure what colleges would consider Iranian under though.

Tell that to Hitler.

Iranian would I believe better be considered as Arab (nations) or Middle East

So I should put “Other” to give me an edge?

There is a difference between race and ethnicity. Your ethnicity is Arab. Your race is white. The middle east is sort of considered part of Europe, and Europe is considered white.

Colleges try to have a diverse group of students, and it is a good idea to try to squeeze as much about you into your application. However, in terms of receiving an advantage as an under represented minority, only Native Americans, Blacks, and Hispanics qualify.

Middle easterns are white. If you don’t believe me look up caucasia on the map and see if it’s closer to middle east or engalnd?

royrules22: Iran is not arabic country. They are separate ethnicity.
