<p>Yeah, Asians are over-represented in the college admissions process on the most part in general. However, there are some disparities among various ethnic groups within the Asian racial subset in terms of this representation - which ones, though? (I know they definitely won’t include Chinese/Taiwanese, Koreans, and Japanese) </p>
<p>My mom’s parents are from China and Taiwan, whereas my dad’s are from Vietnam/Cambodia and China. Would I have a leg up for my Vietnamese and Cambodian ancestry?</p>
<p>I’d say in your case, what more will serve as an advantage or not will be your parents’ profession & education level. If you’re a 1st gen immigrant, your achievements will be viewed differently than if your parents are computer engineers or physicians.</p>
<p>I am not first generation. I am second generation. My dad is a business manager and has a bachelor’s from a mid-tier UC; my mom is the homemaker, but used to be a copyright/patent and advertising worker and substitute teacher, and has a bachelor’s from a prestigious Chinese university and a master’s from a state university in Michigan.</p>
