NYMomof2,
Any good recipe for Quinoa? We buy it at Costco though, might be cheaper because of shipping (pretty heavy). But we do not care much for texture, we like the taste though.

I have a co-worker that buys a ton of stuff from Amazon. I often see the boxes outside of his office. He’s very frugal and shops carefully and Amazon has what I think are loss-leaders to build up their business. I’d guess that Amazon is contributing a lot to keep the USPS running - their delivery times are all over the place which is why it may be good for everyday stuff where timing isn’t critical.

MiamiDAP,

I didn’t like quinoa the first time I tried it, using some that I bought at Trader Joe’s. Then I learned that there is a brand that is much better than most:

See the reviews. Also, this kind does not need to be rinsed.

I just rinse it & steam it & eat it with the sauce from the main course.
I am going to try growing quinoa myself this year, it looks like amaranth.
Ancient Harvest also makes good quinoa pasta.

I make a quinoa soup with spinach and feta, also a salad with black beans.

Does anyone buy vitamins/supplements from Amazon? (I don’t have CostCo. :() I haven’t gotten around to doing that research.

I have an Amazon credit card so, in addition to free shipping, low prices and no sales tax, I get 5% back on those purchases. Sons’ first student cards were also from Amazon.

I just started buying my enormous dog’s special dog food; hard to find locally. The cost isn’t much different from retail, but it’s the delivery to my door that makes it worthwhile.

Finish Quantum dishwasher tabs…much cheaper than at my supermarket.

I’ll have to check out the granite polish.

My boyfriend and I have bought a ton. We pick out what we want on his bodybuilding website’s store, then compare the price on Amazon. If it’s cheaper on Amazon, we buy it there. I’ve been doing that for a while now and have been satisfied. He has dozens of different kinds of supplements that he’s bought there, no problem.

We order virtually everything online besides groceries. We are obscenely busy during the week and don’t even have a chance to sit down and eat dinner until 9 or 10 some weeknights, and if we’re not careful our weekends can end up turning into running around to ten (not exaggerating) different stores trying to run all our errands from the week. So for the most part, if we can’t buy it in a high quality brand from the cheap grocery store we shop at on Sundays, we buy it online to save us the trouble.

Especially anything large… We recently bought a desk chair at officemax and had to open the box in the parking lot and break down the pieces in order to get it to fit in the back of my boyfriend’s tiny sports car. Pretty much anything bigger than 1x1ft is getting ordered online from now on. My desk was ordered on amazon and that turned out great, and it was glass!

I buy vacuum bags, filters for our humidifier, electronics accessories (batteries, cables, etc.)–generally things that require a trip to a special store to purchase–as opposed to Wal-mart or the grocery store.

The corn/quinoa pasta hybrid is really good :)

Adult dipers for mom. We are on subscription, much cheaper than any other places we saw.

Dog food, shampoo, conditioner, dental treats, green poop bags, frontline plus, etc.

Better ramen noodles by the case. It’s amazing the difference.

Some of our standard items include books, vacuum cleaner bags, used to buy lotion for DS but now found it at Costco for less, tea tree oil, Kcups. DH buys some specific clothing items too.
A few weeks ago DH bought clipboards from Amazon…I just found it so funny. Basic brown clipbaords, made in the USA though. That sold him on it I believe.
I do not like dealing with the shipping boxes after orders arrive though.

I buy so much from Amazon - it’s the only place I’ve been able to find Zatarain’s gumbo mix and mustard. Like others my shampoo and conditioner. Anything computer or electronics-related including phone chargers, iPod chargers, printers, printer ink. My snowflake kitties have prescription cat food that I can’t buy from Amazon but I do get Frontline for them. Painting pants for DH, ties for DS1, the list goes on and on. Oh - my camera, Turbotax, a crockpot. Office supply stuff like folders, pens, etc. We live 25 minutes away from any sort of box store shopping so it’s been a real boon. I even got bed-shaker alarm clocks for my boys who are deaf. They have everything.

Other than books, I don’t buy everyday stuff from Amazon except for a spot remover that my local grocery store stopped carrying and Illy Coffee beans, which I can’t find in the store near me.

Cat litter isn’t prime eligible however. In one item, the litter was $11.00 and shipping was $48!

Wasatch…what ramen noodles do you buy?

I buy:
K cups
dog treats
Kind bars
certain sauces that I can’t get in my region.

Bare Fruit Apple chips (by subscription, set every 3 months), Yogi Chai tea (a case is half the grocery store price, if I can find it)

@mom2collegekids, I’ve been buying Indomie Instant Noodles. I’d post a link, but they have a habit of disappearing. They keep their firmness better, and the flavor packs (which I don’t usually use) are more interesting than the usual powdered bullion.

My D, who lives in DC and doesn’t have a car, buys a lot and uses the Prime shipping. I know she buys toilet paper and toothpaste, because she accidentally had her order shipped here once and I refused to pay to ship it back to her! I have friends who buy cartons of protein bars. I haven’t looked into it much because I go to Costco regularly.
