I think it would be easier for me to answer the question, “what dont’ you buy from Amazon.”

This thread got bumped up but is 2 years old.

Have had some problems lately with Amazon (2 day prime items taking 10 days, items ordered not really being in stock and they cancel the order after a “wheres my stuff” inquiry, etc.) I am digressing to talking about non-everyday items, but my last 3 orders had problems. And in several cases I’ve noticed that the prime eligible items are more expensive, so looks like they just rolled the cost of shipping it to item. Given all this, and the likelihood that the prime membership is going up by as much as $40, <a href=“Amazon considers $40 Prime price hike”>http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/03/technology/amazon-prime-price/ I have taken the auto-renew off my account. When DS graduated we lost the free student membership so its been $79. No way will I pay $119 for a membership… Oh, and by the way, there is no way to remove the “auto renew” on line on the account. You have to call them and have them manually do it. That is smarmy, IMO.

An item I recently ordered had to go through 2 vendors (first never really had it and they ultimately cancelled the order and the second company was fairly slow to respond, the item the claimed to have shipped really only generated a label but it never shipped , but the billed me anyway, and it took calls to amazon, and many emails to get the item, 3 weeks later. Amazon 's customer rep person tried to write emails on my behalf but either she was not very sharp or english was not her native tongue. The emails to the seller were incomprehensible and I had to go around her and email the vendor directly to clarify the situation. Then the rep would schedule a time to call me back but would call at a different time and leave a message. I would then have to call amazon and try to get an onshore rep.

Recently bought an item that was an amazon sold item (not an outside vendor). I called them to be SURE they had it, as they listed only one left, and i it was very slow to show the change in status from ordered to packing or getting ready for shipping, or whatever it said. Sat in that status for a day, which made me nervous, as it is a gift and the item selected is a specific style/model/size, etc. It is supposed to be delivered today, I hope, so will see if it is what I ordered. I tried to go back to look at the item listed on Amazon but since it was the last one, when I clicked on my order it took me to another vendor (also made me uncomfortable) and a day later even that vendor wa no longer came up as having the item. I have a small question in the back of my head, if Amazon really had it or it they got it from that second vendor, since both no longer show the item. Will hope its right.

These last 3 purchases have been stressful. Also recently found better deals buying k-cups from Keurig directly, and also from Costco. So havent ordered kcups form amazon in a long time.

I’ve also had problems with items not fulfilled by Amazon. So much so, that if I’m not familiar with the vendor, or it looks like they don’t do a lot of business with Amazon, I won’t order the item. Last month, after I ordered a pair of boots, I received two left boots…they looked new (the soles weren’t scuffed), but they weren’t stuffed with tissue, the box didn’t appear original. I sent them back and reordered - I really like the boots and they were a great price - the second pair was factory perfect. The whole thing was shady, and I had to wonder what happened.

It’s also a good idea to read the reviews…people will usually complain about the shipping and packaging. Toner cartridges seem to be one of the least reliable items and I wouldn’t them on Amazon. As they increase the number of vendors available, they need to put more resources into vetting and ensuring quality product and delivery. If they don’t, it won’t take many missteps for customers to shop elsewhere.

In addition to some toiletries, I buy batteries (hearing aid batteries are on an auto-refill plan) and rice. The rice comes in plastic jars (usually a 4 pack) that sell for at least $2 - $3 more/ea. at Publix. I tend to stick to items that are sold by Amazon and not by other vendors.

We’ve also found good deals on home improvement items, such as last year when I bought half a dozen Lutron motion sensor light switches and half a dozen countdown timer switches (for bathroom fans, mostly.) The local home improvement stores didn’t carry them and it was faster, as well as cheaper, to order from Amazon than HD or Lowe’s.

Eye ointment that is difficult to find locally.

Question about the Ever Clean cat litter - how dusty is it? I HATE when you pour new litter into the box and you are engulfed by a cloud of cat litter dust that gets all over everything. Thanks!

My daughter buys EVERYTHING through Amazon. She lives in the middle of nowhere, Alaska, and there are now grocery stores within a two hour plane ride. Amazon, so far, still ships to Alaska for free, so if they don’t sell it, she does without.

Dog poop bags. Much less expensive than petco and buy like 35 rolls at a time.

Ever Clean is not really dusty, but it does contain natural charcoal, and I do notice that a thin layer of dark dust accumulates on the counter in the room where I keep the litter - the closet of a basement bathroom…the space is very contained, so there really isn’t anywhere else for it to disperse to. However, there is not really a “cloud” of dust when I pour it into the box, more of a little poof. It seems to be a little less finely ground than Tidy Cat and Arm and Hammer, two others I have used, so perhaps that’s why.
