Ok, so I figure T20 means top 20 schools in the nation… But what exactly are these schools? Is there a list somewhere? Who decides this list?

thanks, that’s all. sorry if this is a stupid question. =P

Most people who use this term are referring to US News & World Report. Their rankings seem the most quoted.

TXX is an arbitrary distinction.

You can make up your own mind as to what the top schools are.

USNWR is commonly referenced. I prefer to use the term “top schools” which usually means all the schools that get a lot of interest on CC. That means HYPS as well as Rice, Emory, and Chicago, as well as other trusted schools like UVa and Pomona.

T20 schools on CC simply means that no public schools are invited to join the group.

^ Good Point ^

That’s true on CC, but U.S. News and World Report list does contain some public schools.

T20 usually refers to USNWR rankings, but it does change yearly, so most people on CC are just talking about generally good schools. It’s ambiguous, but a way to define generally a certain caliber of school.

You’ve got three probables with that phrase:

1) CC own “Top Universities” found here: [CC Top Universities - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cc-top-universities/) combined with CC’s Ivies, found here [Ivy League - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ivy-league/)

2) the USNWR Top Universities, for which the Top 20 are found here: [National Universities Rankings - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-universities-rankings), and then

3) the USNWR Top Liberal Arts Colleges, found here: [Liberal Arts Rankings - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/liberal-arts-rankings)

The Top 20? Here you go:

1.Kansas
2.Kentucky
3.Syracuse
4.Duke
5.Ohio St.
6.Purdue
7.West Virginia
8.New Mexico
9.Kansas St.
10.Villanova
11.Michigan St.

hehe 10 char

or 4) Some strange hybrid of the above three that is fairly arbitrary but generally means a school is fairly well known/prestigious/selective.
