I’ve seen this degree and similar variants on a lot of graduate and professional schools.

Here’s a description from UT Dallas:
“The Master of Science in Systems Engineering and Management (SEM) teaches the skill sets needed to develop and manage complex and large-scale systems. It is a cross-functional program from the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Naveen Jindal School of Management and offers an equal number of core courses in management and engineering.”

To be honest, it just sounds like padding on somebody’s resume. How is the skills to manage complex and large-scale systems teachable? What body of knowledge does one master?
