what exactly is pell grant?

i know pell grant does not have to be repaid & its based on the units and my family’s EFC However, how long does pell grant last? Will i always get pell grant as long as a stay in school? How does pell grant differ at a cc than a Uc. if i stay at a CC for more than 2 years, lets say 3. will i only be given one year of pell grant at the UC?

I remember reading that Bush proposed to limit Pell Grant eligibility to 8 years. I don’t know what’s up with that as of late, but you can play it safe and plan to graduate within 8 years, lol. Try the Financial Aid forum, you’ll get many responses. And Pell Grant is the same as at the CC, only the award will be much more since the cost of attendance at a UC is more.

Not really…the Pell has a maximum award amount of $4050…so if your already getting that, you will not get more that if you transfer to another (more expensive) school…

Info:

I doubt anyone is getting $4050 at a CC, but yes, that is the max award.

Its possible… OOS(12+ Units) + 0 EFC= Maximum award

Ahh, yes, non-resident fees.

4,050 is the max per quarter? year?

“Subject to student’s remaining award year amount, Pell Grant may also be awarded during the Summer Session.”

remaining award year amount? what does this mean? i thought theres not really a limit on pell grant

Max per year. As for summer, if you didn’t enroll in full time during one of the quarter/semester, you will be awarded the remaining amount if you enroll into the summer quarter/semester.

what if you you’re a full time student throughtout fall, winter, spring, AND summer? Does that mean you won’t get any money during the summer if you already been awarded the full amount during the fall, winter, spring?

Sorry, i’m a bit confused because my first quarter at a CC will be the summer session.

The award is for the year…there are usually two disbursements, one in Fall and one during Spring…if you use up all your money during the regular year you wont get any money during summer…
