What exactly is preppydom?

In the Lady Gaga issue of Vanity Fair, Christopher Buckley says in an essay," St. Paul’s is to preppydom what the Vatican is to Roman Catholicism: ground zero." [page 241]. What exactly do you think he meant and is SPS any more or less “preppy” than PA, Exeter, DA, Hotchkiss,Groton, etc? What makes a school more or less?

haha good question! bump bump bump!

Well, the Vatican is the headquarters of Catholicism. So if Mr. Buckley makes that comparsion, then it means he is trying to say that St. Paul’s School is the headquarters if of preppyness. But does that mean Rome is more Catholic than Dublin? No. Does it mean St. Paul’s is more preppy than Groton, Deerfield, etc? No.
