what explains dejavu

what is the logic behind why we have dejavu? please fill me in on this.

People are intrinsically “nutso.”

deja vu literally translates to ‘already seen’, it is just an emotion that humans get sometimes that they have already experienced or seen whatever they are seeing or experiencing at the time. i don’t think there’s actually a proven reason why the situations feel familiar, they just do.

Hahaha. Its kinda odd because I have the reciprocal version of dejavu. Instead of having an action happen and then it recurring, I have a dream where I somehow see into the future at a given point and see a scene in which I am involved. When in real life that moment comes, I remember that I have seen this before and I can actually predict what will happen until that scene ended during my dreams.

I have absolutely no idea what can cause this. Dejavu and the opposite are quite interesting phenomenon.

This is one perspective of deja vu:

It’s unknown why deja vu happens or stems from but there are some theories. ^

I have heard it has to do with some glitch in your brain where information goes straight to your long term memory, making you feel as if you have seen it before. I’m not sure if this is true, but I heard it somewhere.

Whoa jaug1, I have that same reciprocal version of dejavu that you described. It’s so weird becuase I KNOW that the dreams did happen and sometimes, I’ll dream of a conversation between people, and I’ll remember certain phrases that they say and later, not in the dreamworld, I’ll hear those same phrases in that conversation again.

Yeah, it really is kinda freaky. You are the first person besides myself who has this. It is a weird feeling when you are in the middle of something, you realize that you have seen it in a dream, and know what the outcome is going to be.

I guess its just an odd part of human nature…

I have actual cases of deja-vu. I’m standing somewhere, and I suddenly snap and think to myself – I was in this situation before! People look like me as if I were deranged.

I don’t see what kind of reciprocal deja vu you have jaug, it might feel like you saw it in a dream - but can you be sure? It is plain and simple deja vu, and I don’t blame you for thinking you’ve seen it in a dream

I love my deja vu moments

I have it all the time… it find it quite entertaining personally.

astrix is right, the “I dreamed this before” phenomena is one of the most common forms of deja vu…many of us have experienced it.

jaug1 and calla 66… the same thing happens to me ALL THE TIME. I thought I was going insane. It happened a lot on a trip I was on this summer that I distinctly remember having the most random dreams about a long time beforehand. Maybe we’re all crazy?

It’s a glitch. It happens when they change something.

Hahaha. Good one aim

i have the same thing all the time, but i do think it is a glitch

I had heard deja vu resulted from an impulse not making the jump across the synapse and having to refire. I can’t document this though. I think it was from a study relating to alzheimers.

JAUG!!
that happens to me too!!
which is funny cuz i was just talking about this tonight when i was with my friends

its so weird

somethings happening ill announce dejavu then ill tell them what happens next until i dont remember anymore

I have deja vu all the time…it’s so creepy…truly of the paranormal

I think a great “explanation” of deja vu comes from Season 5 (6?) of the Xfiles, the episode called “Monday”. Just fantastic. It explains the sensation like: the moment that you are feeling deja vu, you have lived before. in that previous moment you lived, something did not work out the way it was supposed to. so you are reliving that moment (or longer) to get it to work out correctly, and then you’re allowed to move on.

interesting stuff:
