Isnt that Ivy League-type costs? Thats crazy.

Yes, but their 75th SAT percentile is:
CR- 650
M- 640

And they offer an avg financial aid package of $15,000 (that’s institutional aid, and they give institutional aid to over 70% of applicants).

what about the other 30%

If you’re on CC, I would assume you have much better SATs than Fordham… which means you should get aid.

79% received some financial aid
21% received no financial aid

Federal Aid

And I believe this doesn’t count need-based aid.

Private schools are more expensive, but they give more aid.
Schools in cities are also freakishly expensive.
That’s just how it works.

Most private schools cost about the same thing. The Ivies tend to be a little less expensive because of their large endowments.

Hott, most of the aid you listed IS need based aid. Private schools are expensive. Some give out more aid and some don’t. It depends on the amount of money their board of trustees allocates from their endowment funds for financial aid…and in the end…it depends on the amount IN that endowment. Schools with less in their endowments may not be able to meet full need…and most don’t.

what determines if you get financial aid

Hopeful? Are you asking about need based or merit aid? For merit aid, the determination is based on your academic merit typically your GPA, SAT/ACT scores and possibly recommendations. For need based aid, the determination is made based on your family’s financial need based on information from the FAFSA and the Profile (if the school requires it). Some schools also have their own financial aid form.

what would make a dorm room cost $12,000?

^ It’s in New York (in/near the city)

I believe the $12K is room and board. Yes…high priced real estate in that area.

Hopeful, NYU is 52,000. Most schools are running the 49,000-50,000 per year and the dorms in NY are quite expensive.

my son’s ‘cheap’ NYU dorm is 10660 this year and that doesn’t include food (he’s not on a meal plan and lives across the street from Trader Joe’s)

info on Fordham scholarships

run your financial numbers thru an EFC and CSS estimator. that will give you an idea of the least you’ll have to pay (unless you are one of the very lucky people who gets aid exceeding their EFC, it does happen, but only for the most exceptional of students)

Well Fordham sure isnt on NYU’s level.

^But the dorms are.

My S’s ACT is 33 and his SAT scores are above Fordham’s 75%. He did not receive any merit aid (which BTW eliminated the school from our consideration). So aid is not a given even for CC people.
