What General Courses to Transfer to Berkeley?

I wanted to transfer to Berkeley under Psychology or Biology. I know those two are very different but I’m still deciding between becoming a physical therapist or psychiatrist.

-I will be attending a community college for my generals and i wanted to know what kind of math classes will be accepted to transfer and other general classes (ex: intro psych, public speaking, etc). What i mean by accepted is that theyll go towards my 60units so i can transfer and considered.

THanks in advance for your time :)

And if possible courses that would benefit both majors till i decide which i prefer(sorry for the complications)

This is not a good forum for questions that require precise answers:-(

UC Berkeley has very detailed requirements for admissions. You have to get them right. Check out the UC Berkeley web site. They spell them out. Also ask you GC at the CC for confirmation of what’s required. And if for some reason you have additional questions contact UC Berkeley admissions directly. It’s very difficult to bend the UC rules.

Just look at two of questions on this very forum regarding UC admissions where prospective students didn’t get the requirements right, and they now need to appeal a previous acceptance that’s been withdrawn.

You need answers to two questions:

1) Which courses will satisfy Cal’s distribution requirements; and
2) Which courses will satisfy your prospective major requirements.

In some cases, they will overlap, but not necessarily.

The answer to 1 is most “IGETC” courses, which your local (Calif) juco will highlight in its catalog.

The answer to 2, and this is the more important of the two questions, is to search Cal’s departmental websites for Psych and Bio transfer requirements and take something similar at your school.

Also ask the GC at your school: Is Public Speaking transferable to Cal? Will juco Psych xx fulfill Cal’s Psych 1 requirement?

assist.org

Its not too hard. First step: IGETC. It applies to all UCs (though sometimes with a few caveats), and takes care of your general education requirements. Your CCC will have an IGETC worksheet that lists which of it’s classes satisfy which sections.

Second: Assist.org for your major preparation requirements. Choose your college, the destination college, and the major, and it will tell you what the major prep requirements are. If your CCC doesn’t offer them all, consider taking those it lacks at another CCC. This will make you more competitive.

There are some cases where IGETC isn’t ideal. These should be listed on the IGETC worksheet. For reference, here’s Fullerton College’s worksheet (which is fairly well designed):

I agree with player1, [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>http://www.assist.org/) will help you determine what classes you need to take.
