I always get great ideas on CC, so here’s hoping you’ll share your current gift-giving plans.
Here’s my list:
In-laws – subscription to daily NYT
My mom – a gift certificate to Munchery so she doesn’t have to cook much now that she’s newly-widowed
Son – a ski pass, a Britta water pitcher with extra filters, gift certificates to restaurants/movie theaters/coffee shops
Daughter – a ski pass, snowboarding gloves, gift certificate to a snowboarding equipment rental company
DH – a piece of art I picked up while traveling in Asia
In addition, there will be stockings for my kids & husband, filled with sweets and small gifts (perfume, wool socks, good pens, etc.)
Stocking suffers - 1 pound box for each kid of See’s Candies which has free shipping on orders of $65 or more and an online tool to pick up to 10 types of candies and the percentage you would like of each variety (in multiples of 5%) in your custom box. Now everybody gets what they want!
I give books to the readers (my daughters, my nieces), usually ones that I’ve read during the particular year. I also give cash, large amounts to my daughters, small amounts to my nieces and nephew. I’m giving my sister a couple cookbooks (including a paleo-themed one, her current dietary habit). I made donations to Unicef in the names of my mom, my sister, and my brother and sister-in-law.
OMG. Just finished today. Closest friends have agreed to,stop the buying. On another post, I mentioned how I spent 2 weekends shopping for cousin’s 7 grandkids, and how she said enough. No appreciation. So, only have to buy for office mates. Got 2 gifts at the mall last weekend. Today, went to the local Japanese garden and museum. Found perfect gifts for the last 3 recipients. At least, my g/f and I felt perfect.
Sent my son PJs for himself and g/f, plus money to his account to buy for himself and her.
We just picked up H’s gift. The mechanic took another owner’s nice body of THE SAME car as H’s and swapped in all the best parts of H’s car and the other guy’s car. The paint and body are like new and H’s engine, transmission and radiator are new and the other compressor is new so he now has the best of 2 cars in a car he LOVES!
I also bought lots of HI edibles and sent UPS flat rate boxes to folks in CO, AZ and CA. Will be giving a few gift cards to CA Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake Factory as well as a lot of warm clothing for a dear friend who is going to Utah for medical treatment.
Bought S a very nice toiletry kit and Costco membership renewal and D some inexpensive Target black sweaters (good for A/C chill). Will give S a match for his Roth IRA and a large cash gift for D. Bought myself done black sweaters identical to those I got for D in my larger size. Will give my god daughters gift cards and games that S bought them. Bought cute clothing for my great niece and nephew and will give them money towards ed fund.
Pillowcases! I learned how to make them and now can’t stop. Some are Christmas prints, some sports, some just fun designs. Everyone I know will get a pillowcase
My 73 year old dh is still working in order to give our three sons a substantial cash gift this year so they can put it towards or pay off their undergrad student loans.
I will give each of them a couple of fun gifts and a gift card to the most appropriate place for each.
Ods’s fiancee, I got a Kate Spade bracelet (and yes, I’m hoping she will wear it on her wedding day), mds’s wife will get a gift card and yds’s gf is getting various fun things, one being a photo pillow of their dog’s face when he was a puppy last spring. I know she will love that. All of the girls have some this and that like combo pen/stylus, themed kitchen towels, etc. Oh, I got each girl a vase and an “easy arranger”, look it up on Amazon, LOL.
S’well water bottles, 17oz, $35 each from Nordstrom for all nieces and nephews (15 in all). They insulate well and have an opening large enough for ice cubes. Various designs, stainless, champagne, mercury, teak…I hope everyone likes them!
AAA membership and a briefcase he picked out for S. D and I are taking a big trip at Christmas so that is her gift. Massage Envy membership for my sis in law because she is the best one ever! Kendra Scott necklace for niece, earrings for another niece. Feel good about having it all done.
A years worth of coffee beans for the middle of nowhere Alaska kid. Silly socks for the kid who wears scrubs all day plus a few little things she asked for. She’d strangle me if I spent too much. Husband and I are buying ourselves a new stove to the one that just died.
twoinandone–recently my hairdresser told me to use a silk or satin pillowcase
as it keeps the frizz from happening on the back of the hair.
I bought two on Amazon and love them. Bet you could make them!
And! I do know how to sew and bet I could also–an amazing idea, so thanks for the inspiration.
maya54–I want to be your kid!
So far–DIL and S asked for and received a very early gift of a counter top dishwasher
from Amazon. They love it and claim it has made life easier.
We plan on getting them one gift more each–but not yet decided.
4 year old grandson has a lego kit and a hot potato game.
He is not in need of anything large this year (last was his first bike). I thought about a
science kit but wondered if it would get used. Wow! DIL loved the idea as she loves science and wants to work it with him. So OK–that is a good to go.
D’s future husband is receiving a Thermapen.
H is getting–which he will hate until it happens–a one night class with me at one of
our best Southern Cuisine restaurants with their chef. Kinda mean but I know this will
end up being great. Plus 3 pair of shoes he needs but we must shop for together.
D wants a haircut, a pedicure blah blah bah–
Last year her gift was huge–a ticket to India for her good friends wedding.
Nothing that great ever again!
I want a very $$ enameling kit for glass fusion.
H knows so no surprises, but it not something I would easily buy for myself.
