Clarkson University (NY) is always seeking a more diverse student body.
The frozen tundra of Northern New York is not to everybody’s liking however. :)

What can your family afford? Very important!
Have you calculated your EFC? Expected family Contribution.

Use the collegeboard’s one, select “FM” and “IM”. Keep hitting “save” so you can go back to it. If one of your parents likes numbers, ask them to do it with their 2010 tax return and asset information etc. Tell them to pretend it is February of your senior year and they are doing the FAFSA, CSS PROFILE (if school requires it)

There is no sense in looking at schools you can’t afford.

Slumom is hitting the important points. All kids should first have a core list of schools that will certainly accept them and that they can afford. After that, the sky is the limit, you can go to town with your wishlist. But be aware if your family is deemed eligible for financial aid’; many kid are surprised, along with their families about what the system expects the family to pay vs what they feel they can afford. And I don’t meant there is a pot of gold there, Your EFCs may say that you are not entitled to as much aid as you will need to go to a high priced school. So you need to talk to your parents about the finances and what they can afford. Then see if those schools that meet need will make up the difference, and then discuss with parents, again about any gap, if it should exist. If so, you need to find less expensive schools and those where you stand a better chance of merit money.

SAT2s may be needed for some of the more selective schools, so you should be looking at taking some of those.

You might have a chance at MIT, but keep in mind that 44% of accepted students are valedictorians, most have 4.0 unweighted, and some have national/ international honors. That being said, you still have a chance. You should look into QuestBridge (I got deferred-> rejected via QB, but it’s often a crapshoot as so many students are qualified).
