My son just got his PSAT score - 3 points under last year’s cut score for our state. Ugh! We expect he will end up “commended”. Will this do him any good (admissions, scholarships etc.) when he applies to college? He is looking at tech/engineering schools for computer game design.

He can list it under “honors and awards” in the Common App or other college’s unique application forms. That’s about it. By itself it won’t get him money or any special consideration in college admissions, but it is an honor and should be listed along with others.

I think Macalester offers merit $ for commended if you’re middle class.
