what gpa I need to transfer to these colleges?

I am a student in De Anza College. If my major is mechanical engineering, what gpa I need if I want to transfer to UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, and UCD ?

If I got a C in one course, how can I replace the score?

If I take a math 1A in semester unit, then I transfer to De Anza and complete Math 1C and 1D, will the UC reject me because of this?

Also I want to know which UC is better for mechanical engineering. Thank you!

Not an engineering major myself so I can’t answer some questions. I’m guessing a 3.2+ is competitive for mechanical eng at all schools you mentioned, probably a 3.5 for ucla though. You can’t replace a C grade and the UCs prefer you to take a series of classes at the same school. I don’t think you should mix up semester classes with quarter classes, it gets too confusing.

Then what can I do? The counselor said I don’t need to take math 1A and 1B again. I don’t know how to do now.

Why retake math when you can just have stellar ec’s and essays?

PS: Engineering is ultra competitive.

EDIT: Everywhere.

Average gpa of admitted students to ucla for mechanical engineering was 3.83 last year.

i took math 3B in semester units and then tried math1D at de anza…not a good idea, turned out i had never learned half of 1C which was pretty important to understanding 1D lol, my guess is that it’ll be the same if you go straight to 1C, you would be missing half of 1B

not sure about mechanical engineering itself, but in general

UCI, UCD, and UCSB
bare min = 3.0 (40-60%)
decent number = 3.3 (50-70%)
solid(almost guaranteed in) = 3.6 (60-90%)

this is assuming you have 60+ units, completed IGETC and have most of your prereqs done(also do your math and english as EARLY as possible)

for LA and B, add in strong extracurricular activities(quality> quantity) and increase your GPA by .3-.6

this is in general, YMMV. If I’m wrong, I’d like someone to call me out.

lomkh, but can you still be able to transfer to UC?
