What grad school is realistic

I am in a weird position. I started school at a crappy state school. I got a GPA from 60 hours there of 2.7. I have since taken a 2 year break and now have two semesters in a row with a 4.0 and all of the classes were upper division honors. I have about 4 semesters left but it will be in just easy gen ed.

The school isn’t even worth mentioning, just a University of random state.

I have about 200 hours of cognitive computing research and 50 hours as a joint comp-sci and comp-engineering project. I’m sure I’ll get into more before I graduate.

So, I’ll probably graduate with a 3.3-3.6, some decent research, sole programmer for a safety critical program for a major airline, and 4-ish letters of recommendation. Only one of which from someone with some merit (ex professor at MIT).

My GPA sucks for MIT/Carnegie level schools, but where is it realistic to apply for computer science graduate school.

Consult with the individuals you are doing your research with. They will be the best judges of your abilities (and the types of LORs they will be writing) and the specific programs you’re interested in.
