What happens after a preread?

My son is Class of 2025 (my daughter is '27 and also a swimmer- hence the sticker on my name). So it won’t take a year considering application deadlines approaching in the upcoming months. But it’s helpful to know things might not happen as fast.

Generally speaking slower teams wait for the trickle down from faster teams. Your son should be checking in with coaches regularly. Its also important to be realistic about your times and the needs of the team. Just like with the regular admissions process, its important to cast a wide net and have some athletic safeties in the mix. Can you share some of the schools he is targeting?

Things move along faster for girls because it is much more competitive for the coaches. She should start reaching out to schools starting next summer (after sophomore year).

D3: Hope, Calvin, Rochester, SUNY-Geneseo, TCNJ, Trinity (TX)
D2: FL Southern, GVSU, Colorado Mesa
D1: Maine

My daughter would be looking at mostly D1s and 2s, good to know about the faster process for girls.

Several D3s are faster than D1/D2 schools

Your son should proactively ask what’s the next step while indicating his desire to proceed.

So now I know what happens! (At least in our case) Went for the overnight visit this past weekend and loved it! Met a couple of players, went to class, went hiking with the whole team, etc. Overall a great experience and chance to see behind the scenes, so to speak. Only one other recruit there, apparently three in total.

The overnight visit was crucial and solidified the choice. Coach gave permission to publicly post “commitment to the admissions process,” and application is now being finished up. Coach also strongly reiterated how much my kid was wanted there and her fullest support through admissions. December can not come quick enough…

December and decisions are here — she was officially accepted yesterday! There were two notable things that happened leading up to decision release; financial aid department reached out last weekend, and also Coach texted my kid to tell her when decision release time was and for her to call once she found out hers.

Now the NESCAC journey has officially begun!
