What happens if I apply SCEA to one school and ED to another?

I’m honestly just curious. Let’s say, hypothetically, that I applied ED to Brown and then applied SCEA to Yale. Would it be possible for Yale to find out about this and disqualify my application?

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I definitely didn’t plan on doing this (though I will be applying ED to Brown) but I am curious if SCEA schools have any way of making sure that you only apply early to them, or if it’s based solely on trust.

Hypothetically, you’ll be rejected from both.

For starters, your GC would not (or at least should not) complete his/her part for 2 ED/SCEA programs. It’s his/her reputation and that of the HS on the line. So at least one of the applications will be incomplete.

But if on the off-chance something slipped through the cracks, you should assume that it is not a matter of if the college will find out, but **when. ** And since you hypothetically violated ED/SCEA rules, there will be consequences.

As an example, this is what Harvard says:

https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-process/application-requirements

No guidance counselor should allow that to happen.

No person with a sound value system should consider it.

And if discovered at any point down the road the person should expect any acceptance by the ED and SCEA schools to be rescinded.

There is no way your GC will allow this. They would be jeopardizing their personal and the high school reputation.
