I just finished my freshmen year at a State College with a 3.61 overall GPA. I am currently speaking with NYU recruiters for wrestling at NYU while attending NYU Tandon School of Engineering. From their impressions, I think I have a good chance of gaining admission through my sport.
I was wondering, what if I were injured in the season and could not wrestle anymore? Would I still be able to attend NYU Tandon School of Engineering as a regular student?
NYU is a NCAA Division lll school, so they can’t provide scholarships.
Your status as an athlete at a college has no affect on your attendance once you have been accepted. In other words, once you have gained admission to a college - any college - that admission cannot be revoked merely because you ultimately quit the sport, for any reason (presuming you remain academically and financially eligible to attend, same as any student).
I agree with the post above except I would say “once you have enrolled” rather than “once you have been accepted”. It may not be common, but I have heard of colleges revoking admission for admitted but not yet enrolled students, who decided not to play their sport. In the case of someone admitted partly because of sports there is some logic to this. Just like colleges can revoke admission if a student’s high school grades slip too far after being accepted.
I haven’t heard of this happening with students already enrolled who decide to quit sports though.
