My friend got the fee waiver for 4 schools and also applied to a 5th school, resulting in a 70 dollar charge. He said he won’t be able to pay it until next month, and this is by check. Is there any reason to be concerned?

I imagine that the application will drop the 5th school choice and not the others that he got a fee waiver for. Did he contact the University of California and let them know about this? If so, they might let him pay later for adding a 5th school; they seem to be very understanding about these things. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.

Thanks Cayton. I don’t remember but are you able to select the priority of the schools? You mentioned the ‘5th’ school, but would the UC people know which one is the 5th?

Well, I submitted my application several days ago; I applied to four schools and got the fee waiver. There is no priority in schools being applied to, so to speak.

I’m 95% certain the UC people would know which school is the 5th one that your cousin doesn’t have a fee waiver for.

How could they possibly know which is his 5th school? My understanding is that if you don’t pay the total amount owed then none of your applications will go through. If you’ve opted to pay by check, then they give you about two weeks to mail the check in to their office. I would recommend calling to UC application hotline or sending an email to ask the question.

They’ll know - perhaps in the receipt. If you don’t pay, your application goes in the trash. Enough said.

Hmm, now I’m not so certain. Maybe he is in danger of having his application deleted if he doesn’t pay the balance due for adding another school choice…

They have no way to know what your school preferences are. They’re all in one page and you simply check off each box. No data is sent to the servers until you click ‘next page’ with all your campus selections. Not only that but they have no idea of knowing which schools you really want and which is the “eh, I don’t care as much” school.
