What happens if your school offers some AP's one year and doesn't offer it other year

I’ll rephrase my question. I am a sophomore and my school basically offers different AP’s each year. They had AP Euro last year and the year before, but not enough people signed up for it this year so they don’t have it. They had AP Art History 2 years ago and were suppose to have it this year, but they didn’t. They didn’t have it last year too but again not enough people signed up.

I would have liked to take AP Euro History next year, my junior year. I was going to take AP Art History this year, but good thing I didn’t because something happened. But do college’s see what AP’s my school offers year by year. I may not have room for AP Euro my senior year, but they may offer it then. But they may not offer it my junior year, it depends on how many kids sign up for it. I may just end up having one AP class my junior year, because the only other AP I could take would be AP Physics and I stink at science! I would probably have the following AP course the time I graduate:

AP Human Geo (freshman year, 3)
AP World History (this year)
AP US History (junior year)
AP Govern/AP Micro (senior year, one each semester)
AP Lang or Lit (senior year)
AP Psychology (senior year)

*Note this may change if they offer AP Euro my senior year. It just depends I guess what is offered. I don’t know if I should take AP Physics if I’m more of a social studies and language arts person. I usually get mid B’s in Honors Science classes. I want to be a print journalist or screenwriter when I’m older. I was in the Accel math course, but I recently dropped down so I have college prep math now.

I’m not sure if colleges see how many / which APs your school offers, but you can always self-study a course. It takes a lot of dedication to do that though so you better really love the subject.

I think some colleges (like MIT) makes your school report which AP’s they offer. I think Common App asks the school how many AP courses it offers.

But I think it’s what your guidance reports. I think that it’d be unfair for your guidance reported a bigger number (like just wrote down all the courses your school could potentially offer), so you could probably ask your confirm with your guidance on this one.

Many schools provide a school profile that lists the APs provided. Make sure your school’s profile is up to date. Although I guess, in your case since it varies from year to year, the GC may have some explaining to do in their letter. I hate this kind of messiness. I’m sure this happens with some kids at our HS since the same thing with AP classes has happened. By sheer luck, it hasn’t effected what my S wanted to take when.

That’s why I’m worried! They may not offer AP Euro in my junior year, but they may offer it my junior year. But I may not have room to take it senior year. So that’s why I’m worried, when I want to take classes they aren’t offered. I don’t even know if it’s offered next year, because they will prob have it open but it depends on how many kids sign up.
