RacinReaver – That video is amazing. I laughed so hard. My experiences are so very similar, I keep asking certain questions and keep getting the same nonsensical responses back over and over. Too funny. Anyway, I am going to try the e-mail route. One last ditch effort.

NewHope – How weird is that! That is amazing.

You’re welcome. I posted the link to the general website earlier, but this takes your right to the phone numbers. Might it be helpful to ask for technical support? They might have a little better insight into whether there is some software glitch.

DW did what we usually do when we’re getting non-service … she hung up and called again. A different customer service agent thanked us for not “leaving the car at the lot” and waived the charge.

And no, we don’t rent from that company anymore … or another company that tried to bill us for damage we didn’t do, citing “damage” they “found” long after we dropped off the car. Their explanation was nonsensical: “Oh no, the inspection the agent when you return the car does isn’t the official inspection. We do the official inspection later.” Yeah, right.

It’s a tough job . I originally started in a customer service type position when I began at my company. I’ve since moved around to various departments and have landed in IT. We’re currently training 700 seasonal new hires between three offices this summer to help out with our busy season through the end of the year. Our corporate goal is to have at least 80% of phone calls answered in 45 seconds or less. People very rarely wait longer then a minute. The seasonals that do well may be offered a job to stay permanently… and oddly enough some of them just seem to like being seasonal… I recognize quite a few people who were with us during last year’s busy season…

It’s rough when you’re training so many new people at once… I have worked in training before… I hear some of them talking to customers and they sound as if they’ve been there for years… others still sound skeptical or unsure in their answers. We put a lot of emphasis on training and try to equip everyone with the knowledge and technology to be able make decisions on things. We’re in insurance which is very highly regulated.

Depending on the company there can be a LOT of turnover… and the pay could be not very good compared to the amount of crap people take from customers. Please treat them in a way that you would like to be treated.

By the way Jym, Love love love your asking to speak to the manager. I actually had one manager years ago who let all of the customers who wanted to speak with her about positive things go to her voice mail, which prompted them to leave their name, phone number, account number, and reason for call (in a nice way)… she then would forward that voice mail to the vice president/ COO of our company and contact the customer back thanking them for the message and letting them know what she did with it. The COO called her back on every single voice mail and sent us a 5 dollar gift card (to target, actually!)… they tracked how many of those ‘compliment’ calls you got and gave out various prizes and gifts in drawings and whatnot as well. It’s always nice to be recognized for doing a good job.

Well, the e-mail thing didn’t work. I called Target again, to request an e-mail address. The guy on the line was very nice, asked me the same questions again. Told me there was nothing wrong with the red card, doesn’t know why it didn’t work, but it is now blocked because they are sending me a new one. Which I did request, thinking maybe there is something physically wrong with the card. Finally, after 15 or 20 min. and two dropped calls, he gave me an e-mail address. So I typed up my saga, and the e-mail bounced back. I guess they really don’t want to communicate by e-mail! I am going to send some snail mail. After that, I quit. At one point, in one of my earlier conversations on the phone, one of the Target customer service people told me that if I want the 5% discount, I should talk to my attorney. :0 Nah . . .

Quite awhile back, I was at a bank for mundane transaction. The teller proceded to reach for my slips while talking on her cell phone. I asked her to wait til she was done on the phone. She hung up, glared at me and said “I was talking to my mother!”

We have an OXO dish drain bought several years ago. One part broke, and the lip of the mat was getting mold. I emailed customer support to see if I could buy new parts and they shipped them to me for free.

Called Trader Joe’s to see if they would have round challahs for Rosh Hashona. The guy looked at the computer and said they would be in Oct. 16 - too late, I replied. He took my number, called corporate, and called me back three minutes later to tell me they would be in this week through Oct. 16.

Re hang up and call again - about five years ago we ordered new cell phones from AT&T for our family plan with change in plan and rebates and stuff. I kept track - before it was all settled I had made 20 calls with 50% efficiency. I hung up and recalled at least three times to get a competent agent.

Well, I e-mailed Target and got no response. Zip. Well, not worth wasting any more time on it. The red card worked back here in town when I tried it last, at least.

But, have to say, the I.R.S. takes the cake for possibly the worst customer service. On hold for 30 - 40 min. (twice), then get an agent that is snippy (nice way of putting it, to be frank) and impatient, and does not listen, and then drops the call.

On the other hand, Blue Cross in California, the other day, had a human being pick up the phone in just a few minutes, and actually gave a helpful answer to my question. All taken care of in under 5 min. WOW! Almost felt giddy after I hung up the phone on that one. When I get that kind of service now, I really appreciate it.

I went into our local farm supply store the other day and asked the lady if I could have XXX dog food, one of the big bags in the back room. She rang it up and didn’t say anything. I said, “DD, let’s go get the bag - we can carry it together.” The woman broke in and said, “It’s already in your car.” What?? Who did it and how did they know which car was mine? Amazing customer service. DH said they always do that there.
