What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

These are my favorite fleece lined running tights. Most comfortable and I think I’ve might have bought most of them :joy:

I adore having pockets for running. Sometimes with phone weight in pocket, I need to have drawstring to keep them up. But I’ve also worn pocketless leggings, with pocketed shorts over the top.

The “pockets” are more built into the side of the leg and a phone does not move when you run in them - very secure! And because the leggings are fitted in all areas it all stays put!

Most athleta leggings also have a pocket in the waistband in the back - even if they don’t have the slash pockets on the legs. I can fit my iPhone in the waistband pocket sideways and do so when running.

I like the side thighs ones because I can retrieve easier. For a phone.

Okay, how about a nice BB gun made out of metal and wood?

Many of the tights at Costco have side pockets. I’m very fond of pockets that are easy to reach and stash my phone and/or other items I need to access.

Understood. I hate stopping when doing my cardio so I prefer to have my phone in the back pocket to not tempt me as much to answer it.

I also prefer the comfort level of it being in the back pocket against my lower back rather than feeling it against my leg.

Harder to find than you might think.

Any suggestions of items for a new runner? I was thinking a light-weight side pouch that can carry a good sized water bottle. Any recommendations for a good one – or any other gear?

How about good socks and maybe a good hat/gloves? Socks are $$$. People have preferences, but I can be nice to try new ones out to see what you like or not.

I don’t see really needing a water bottle unless you’re training for a long race. I never carried anything unless my runs were over 10 miles, but I am more of a running minimalist myself. And super cheap, so not the best person to ask about brands.

A good headlamp and/or running vest if they are going to run in the dark and don’t have one.

Better yet, a handheld designed for runners. The grandfather of this bottle trained with me for Boston:

Also, Amphipod makes safety stuff like reflective vests or LED bracelets or harnesses.

A race belt is good to have:

New runners do need more water. Initially I had a big collapsible bottle. These days I carry a small (6oz?) flat flask that fits easily in pockets, but I only finish it in hot weather. (I do have some necco wafers in pockets).

Thin ear/head band is nice in cooler weather. It can ben an extra layer under warmer had in really cold weather.

I have one of these waist storage belts, though I don’t use it much now since I’ve evolved to clothing with pockets to fit my needs. I like it better than arm band for phone (I have skinny arms)

I also have this storage belt, with small water bottles. I used it when a new runner needing more water, but it was a bit awkward.

I’m a big fan of feetures socks. A new runner would appreciate good socks. Balega socks are also a favorite.

If they run in the dawn or dusk, I have a noxgear vest. https://www.noxgear.com/

I’d personally get socks, they are pricey and are always needed.

These are really good socks that last a long time.

+1 to Balega socks. I don’t know if I can ever wear any other - I like the thin ones for running and everyday. 100% true that socks are expensive. But I’d want to know what the person prefers. I’m SUPER picky about socks.

Also agree that a water bottle unless handheld or the vests/backpack for really long runs is not ideal. Hard to run with a water bottle clanging and providing bulk.

Here’s my idea addition. I use this for running, walking myself, walking the dog, etc… especially if the runner might be running very early or on the late side - or even in inclement weather - a lighted running “vest”

I’ve had mine for probably 5 years and have only had to replace the battery a couple of times.
