What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

My kids loved a set of playsilks. They were capes, forts, doll clothes, masks, hats etc. They were used for many years.

If you sew you can make dress
Up clothes. Skirts, tutus, capes.
My PT said it was an odd gift but his boys loved at that age when the other grandma gave them each their own suitcase.
My son and dil wanted only wood toys but they have discovered in the developmental disability and PT world for young babies a lot of plastic toys are involved.
The blow up balls with knobs on them are
Plastic but they make great gifts for younger kids as they can grasp them.

Our son is pretty hard to shop for. But tonight I picked up two different herbal rubs for meat. I think he will like those. He doesn’t really decorate for Christmas, so I got him two dish towels and when they look bad he can toss them. He is getting coffee roasted in our town and a diner style mug from our town also. And annual socks. I think he will like those. I’ll box up his Christmas cookies and get this all in the mail on Monday.

Both kids will get a cash gift as well to use as they please.

My mom used to say all kids needed were books, boxes, and bubbles!

Look up montessori toys/gifts. Consider a fabric toy such as a pop up tent, a huge circle parachute for group play. Now there are some cool long scarves that make a hammock using a kitchen table. My g’son is 5 but I have no such restrictions about plastic now. They did when he was a toddler but gave up. I go to Amazon and put “toys for 5 year old boys” in the search. You might put “fabric toys for 5 year old boys” or “wooden toys for 5 year old boys”. I sent the “Book without Pictures” this year, college money and a plastic game, and Bomba socks.

Just ordered The Fox Experiment for D and SIL who enjoy these type of games. Thanks to whoever mentioned it upthread. They say it will arrive by Xmas - fingers crossed.

@BunsenBurner I would give these kids…candy! It surely won’t end up in the landfill🤣

Anyone have either of these games, whose ads are always in my feed: OuiSi and Uzzle?

I’ve been thinking of that for D’s boyfriend. She got him a smoker last year and they use it all the time. I’m going to order some ‘meat grabbing’ gloves (that come with shredder forks) and I think get some rubs or spices to make a gift box.

Still leaves the other boyfriend. All I know that he likes to do is hunt and fix cars, and I don’t want to give them a lot of things as they will be moving in March and maybe again after that (I think he’ll return to grad school next year).

Would a food basket work for people tough to shop for?

Your personal doctors??

Sorry, @abasket, spell miscorrect strikes again. Corrected it—meant shopping for folks who are tough.

It’s an opportunity to gift fun luxury items they might not treat themselves to. I was impressed by the offerings of katz deli in nyc. They don’t charge shipping in US for orders if $100+. We bought a box for ourselves—sadly we missed the sale but it seemed like you get value for what is included.

We went to a holiday sip and shop today. Got DD a really nice merino wool hat. Got DS the coffee beans roasted in our town.

Saw what I want to get DH but he was with me so I’ll need to go back!

My recent college grad asked for new frying pans. He had been using our old hand-me-downs. He doesn’t need a full cookware set (no need for saucepans), just 2-3 pans/skillets.

Any suggestions for brands that people are happy with?

We use GreenPan. Although the instructions say do not use on heat higher than medium. They sell them at Costco, Kohls, Target, etc.

Actually our All Clad fry pan says not to go above medium heat also. It conducts heat so well there is no need to go on high.

Our non-stick fry pans from Sam’s Club have served great use and are relatively inexpensive.
Our favorite is a 12 inch All-Clad stainless and then a cast iron pan (but super heavy of course). Depends on his cooking needs.

I am asking for Le Creuset. I used them when I took a cooking class in France. They were light, easy to clean and heated evenly.

I was looking at the GreenPan reviews and a lot seem to complain that the non-stick only lasts a few months.
