What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

Same with All Clad non-stick. Honestly if you want non-stick then get the ones from Sam’s or some other “restaurant quality” type. Ours have really lasted but none of them last forever.

I have had mine for a couple of years and not had a problem like I did with other non-stick pans. We wash by hand.

Thanks, he washes everything by hand. I think we will give it a try. Anything is better than the old stuff he has been using.

Just be careful if he has roommates. Years ago we gave my BIL a very nice (and expensive) non-stick calphalon frying pan…and his roomie used metal in it and ruined it.

We have had our calphalon pots and pans nearly 30 yrs and they are only now starting to wear

Might not be exactly user friendly at first but we like Cast Iron Pans. Last forever and good protection as well :laughing:

Lots of folks love their scan pans! Also, give the kid the right kinds of utensils to use if you get a non stick pan. Not metal.

Lodge pre-seasoned cast iron skillets! The pre-seasoning makes them fairly close to non-stick, and as more and more cooking is done in them, they become more and more non-stick without any of the non-stick toxicity or wearing away issues.

I love mine and use it constantly. The rest of my skillets are Le Creuset.

That’s what I read over and over again - kept me from buying them.

I bought ours at Costco. Cheap enough that I won’t be upset if the nonstick stops working. They are goldish colored inside, not sure of brand. They work great. We e maybe had them a year or two so far?

I have two Allclad regular fry pans…and one large and older revere ware. None non-stick. They clean up very nicely using barkeepers friend, and I do like them…a lot.

DD has an egg every morning for breakfast. She gets small non-stick fry pans at Home Goods or Marshalls…and when they wear out, she replaces them. But that doesn’t happen very often, because she takes food care of them

Scanpan (not the basic one) and HexClad are two brands I use all the time.

Another vote for Lodge cast iron skillets. Easy to season/clean and indestructible.

I agree - cast iron is too heavy for me, but DH swears by his. Our D20 and D24 argue over who will inherit it from him some day, and only one of them likes to cook. :rofl:

Depending how much he cooks and what kind of cook he is, I don’t know that I’d start off with cast iron. He’s probably early 20s? I don’t know that he needs a set to last a lifetime - just a set that is better than hand me downs! Cast iron can be a little tricky to learn to cook with. I love mine but sometimes my choice is something different.

For me personally, I favor stainless steel over coated and over cast iron. We have always cooked with SS and it’s what we prefer. I’m always nervous with nonstick and find cast iron just too heavy.

I don’t think cast iron is tricky at all. No special utensils and it’s practically indestructible. I don’t lift the pan while I’m cooking so the weight is a non-issue until clean up but it definitely is heavier than other pans.
