I have a relatively small lodge cast iron skillet and I don’t think it’s very heavy. My Le Creuset are way heavier.
I love my Le Creuset 12 inch skillet and my 13 liter dutch oven but they are NOT light! I have had both for more than 20 years but I don’t think the new ones are any lighter. They will outlive me though.
I once picked up a Le Crueset dutch oven at the store. Oh my, I could hardly pick it up when empty.
They are so darn pretty though
Non stick pan is lighter. I felt it was something I could handle when I was at the cooking class. An 11 in non stick pan is around 3 lb vs 5.
When I was married we had a whole set of Le Creuset cookware. I was happy when my ex wanted to take them. I only kept one Dutch oven for sauce/soup.
Wow, thanks for all of the replies!
- He doesn’t have metal cooking utensils. Neither do we.
- Cast iron is out for this stage of his life. He does too much lifting and flipping (omelets, sauteed vegetables, etc).
- I’ve wondered about Hexclad, but it seems pricey.
- We’ve had mostly Circulon and All Clad. We have a couple of Le Creuset pieces. I think he is currently using our old Circulon.
Off to read reviews about all of your suggestions. Thank you!
My lovely daughter has asked for a plant stand for a large pot that her cats can’t climb up on.
Hahahaha!
I am picturing a greased barber pole sunk into the foundation of her rental apartment, with a platform exactly the size of the pot on top!
Any suggestions?
Here is the Scanpan one I use all the time:

This is the frying pan that gets lots of use in our house.

It’s on etsy dot com.
I have the revere ware pans, and have had them since 1987. I just gave my mother’s set away and she’d had those pans and used them since 1954 when she got married. Hers were in a little rougher shape than mine (much more use), except for the dutch over and the super large fry pan as they hardly got used. Definitely work horse pans.
I also have several revere ware pans. None with the copper bottom (which is what my mother had). I have had mine for probably 39 years - got a full set of revere pots and pans as a wedding or shower gift.
One time my mother left a revere ware pan with the copper bottom on her gas stove and forgot about it. It got hot enough that the copper melted!
For my son’s birthday we gave him a Blackstone Electric Griddle. He uses it almost every day. Both my parents, and my in-laws, were so impressed with it that they each bought one. We bought him the large griddle, but they have a smaller version.
I bought a set of Revereware and one of Farberware back in the early 80s when I got my first solo apartment. They’ve been in use ever since. H has tried searching for replacements but we couldn’t find anything we liked better so they’re still in use by us!
Google a “tulip table” plant stand. Or just a “tulip table” accent table. That shape is something they couldn’t climb!
I received a set of Revere Ware pans including that when I was in HS (graduated in 1980). I may still have one around. I used them for decades.
We have a set similar to this and like them
I love these for non-stick and have found them durable:
OXO Good Grips 8" and 10" frying pan skillet set on Amazon. I also have the 12" size.
They have silicone handles.
I hand wash them and use wooden or silicone on them-- I avoid metal utensils.
Being non-stick, they cannot go under the broiler.
Also, an all-metal pan that can go under the broiler is a basic thing I think all cooks need (mine are a discontinued brand so I can’t recommend them.) Cast iron and clad stainless steel are both great.
If anyone is looking for an adorable book for a family with young children I think this is the one. It’s a daily page book that encourages gratitude and family time in a very kid friendly way. I think it would be good for the late preschool to age 8 or so crowd. A little order would be ok too especially if they have younger siblings
It’s $10.99 but there is a $2.20 coupon today making it $8ish dollars
The illustrations are so pleasant and it encourages family to take just a minute each day to read together and maybe do an activity.
Great for grandkids, neighbors, donating etc!
The Little Book of Joy: 365 Ways to Celebrate Every Day https://a.co/d/aAIC7bG
And excellent reviews!!
That book is so cute! My niece really doesn’t need anything else (only little one in our family) but for $8 I couldn’t resist.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks! Got one for the older grands so they can torture their parents with requests for daily activities!
