What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

I’ve only played it once but we thought it was fairly easy and fun.

Thanks for the idea. Santa will bring Mexican Train dominoes for the family this year. I bought a 2nd set for a friend’s upcoming birthday.

Just a cautionary tale for those of us sending gifts that contain perishable items. Alert the recipient because some people just do not look at the box.

We sent country sausage, bacon, etc. to a family member. The dad brought the box in, didn’t open it and just threw the box under the tree to open later. The box clearly says perishable, open open arrival and refrigerate or freeze , depending on when you will use. Very clear instructions inside the box as well if he had opened it. If the mom had not emailed me (she was away and her husband told her they got a package from us), to let me know the package had been brought in by her husband , I would never have known it could have been sitting in their house (potentially for days), unrefrigerated.

The sausage in particular would have been possibly unsafe to eat at some point if I had not caught wind of this. And a partially wasted gift! They were thrilled with the gift and will use it for a big breakfast on Christmas day. All was luckily salvaged in time. Country sausage, country ham, bacon, griddle cake mix, maple syrup, jam.

That’s good advise. It’s hard to control a mail order gift… smart to call the recipient. For my self-shipped gifts, I put an “open now” instruction (in sharpie) under the return address sticker if there is anything that is perishable.

Ok give me a few ideas. My family loves vintage and MCM items. I bought this beautiful cut bowl for my daughter in law. I think she will use it on her dining room table or on some display/bookshelves she has in her home.

I want to fill it with something just for presentation as a gift. At the vintage stooge I bought it at they suggested candy, candy canes, ornament bulbs. She won’t want the bulbs. I was hoping for something more personal than candy.

She is early 30s - ideas??

It’s about 10 inches in diameter!

Not very pretty… but you could add single serving nuts and snacks.

Pine cones, wooden or vine balls, pears…

Keep ideas coming! Want it to be something useful and not necessarily decorative. Food is ok if it would be a little splurge or special.

Fancy tea or coffee bags? I’ve got a weird fixation on cute chip clips. Little tubes of lotion, chapstick, etc? Or maybe a mixture of everything?

Chocolate-dipped dried fruit? Mini sample cosmetics & soaps? We’ve used our similar bowl to serve berries. Ours was a wedding gift & received empty. We find it charming.

A bunch of bath bombs, if she likes baths!

Do you also get her a stocking? If not then things you would put in a stocking. Maybe all wrapped individually for a fun presentation. Socks, bath and body stuff, lottery tickets, fun treats etc.

Fancy popcorn balls, chocolate truffles, tea towels, decorative soaps, waxed amaryllis bulbs, or just fill it with colorful ribbons and bows.

I actually had a thought about socks! But don’t know if that’s weird in a bowl!

Yep she will have a separate stocking

The bath products is a good ideal…I’ll have to ask my son if she ever takes a bath!
