What Humanity class would you recommend a prospective sophomore?

Hey, I’m planning out my courses for next fall and I have yet to make up my mind on which humanity class to take. So far, Intro to Psychology is the one I am targeting but I just thought I guys might have some insightful suggestions…Peace

Take whatever course you are most familiar with, and pass/fail or drop it ASAP if the prof is incomprehensible or if it’s too much work.

Avoid philosophy. Most of the classes have a work/grade spread and you don’t really learn anything substantive.

What you should take really depends on what you’re doing it for. If you’re doing it for fun, then my above comment stands. If you’re doing it for MAP, my comment above stands as long as you can pass/fail MAP requirements. If it’s for a major, you’ll have to take it for a grade.

Thanks for the reply. How hard is it to get a A in a graded humanity class?

Depends on the prof, really.

psych = social science…humanities are like art history, english, that stuff.

you cant generalize humanities classes because they depend on the professor more than anything else - humanities are writing-based with lots of papers so everything is more subjective than say, a math class where there’s a right or wrong answer. A good professor can make a dull subject interesting.

So first go on Albert and look at courses that fit your schedule and look interesting. Find like 5-7 potential courses and then check out Ratemyprofessor or ask around, and find one with the best professor.

if you are not familiar with art history DON’T TAKE ART HISTORY. if you don’t love art, you will be stuck memorizing around 300 paintings (NOT an exaggeration) and wanting to punch someone. my roommate took art history thinking it would be a breeze and broke into hysterical crying fits while trying to memorize all of the paintings.

if you can, take “history of communications”, if it counts towards humanities. easy A, and you learn stuff about the gutenburg press and the history of phones and shopping malls. it’s really easy.

thanks guys!
