What if I get rejected from all the UC's I applied to?

I applying as an OOS state transfer applicant, I am a CA res., and graduated from a CA high school. Here is my situation, I am currently in a 4 year university. I decided to transfer back to CA because I wanted to switch into a mathematics major, but my current college doesn’t offer any mathematics major.

background info:
I have previously taken two math courses (linear algebra and diff. eq.) during the summer for fun at a CCC, but I got B’s in both. After, I realized I really had a passion for math, I decided to apply to the UC’s again as a transfer, so I took multivariable calculus at another out of state college( because I was still attending my current college, and they didn’t offer any math courses above Calc 2). Basically by the end of the spring, I would have all of my prereqs done for math except UCSD because they require java programming, which were mostly completed at the CCC. I have already taken all of the math courses available to me at a lower division level, so if I don’t transfer I would have to stop pursuing math, unless I decide to go back to college when I’m older.

Basically, if I get rejected from all the UC’s, I would have to give up pursuing math, or go back to a CCC, but even if I do, I wouldn’t know what courses I would take because I have already finished my prereqs for all UC’s but UCSD, completed a lot of GE courses at my OOS colleges, and I can’t repeat the 2 B’s I got at the CCC. I know I screwed myself over by not transferring back into a CCC because I didn’t want to disappoint my parents. I have a UC transfer GPA of 3.8 from four different colleges (two are CCC), which isn’t exactly good for an OOS applicant. By the end of the spring I would have attended six different colleges, so my transcript is all over the place. I thought about applying Cal states, but since I was missing the required speech course I would not be able to be admitted as a transfer there. UC’s are my cheapest option right now.

What are my options if I get rejected to all the UC’s I applied to ( I applied to all but UCSF and UCM)? Can I get rid of my OOS credits, and retake the same courses again at a CCC?

No you cannot get rid of your OOS credits and won’t be able to retake the same courses at a CCC. How many units do you have? Are any units upper division?

I have will have around 68, which is not counting my AP credits, I am taking a psychology course which counts as an upper division course, but it wouldn’t transfer.

how do you know the psych class won’t transfer over? It could transfer as UD, and then be designated as LD. You just don’t know. So you should probably factor the GPA in from that course, unless it’s really an off-the-wall course.

we’ll I’m taking it right now in the spring semester, and I don’t really need it for a math major nor for extra units,

Because you have some CCC and AP credits, and since you’re still a CA resident, you’re definitely a unique applicant. I think you have a better chance than a nonresident applicant.

If you get rejected from all the UCs, it seems you are still going to leave your current campus, since they don’t offer a math major. Then I think your next steps would be to look at privates and also to talk to CCC to determine whether you can attend and work toward reapplying to the UCs.

Ya, I might try for CCC again, but I kind of screwed myself over because I took two math courses during the summer for fun, and I didn’t really study for the tests, so those B’s I got will be forever in my record, and they are major prereqs too.

Don’t knock yourself over Bs!

Thanks! I really want to get into Berkeley, b/c I can actually commute from home, so it would be my cheapest and best option. Though then again, it’s Berkeley, and I’m still OOS, so at this point I just want to get in some UC, and study what I love. Guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Good luck to you! Please post your results!
