I’m a Chinese, and now I’m in California, LA. I’m a sophomore now. As you see my english is pretty bad, and I struggled a lot last year. My dream school is USC or NYU, if i can get gpa 3.8-4 in next 3 years, are there any possibilities that I can get in USC or NYU?
Depends if you really want it. If your school provides online classes or summer school ask if you can retake the classes starting at the lowest until you have an a or b average. According to what I found online both schools are highly competitive. Meaning AP classes are a must for this school as well as a near perfect score in SAT or ACT with writing. You would want to have leadership position in a club that you have an interest in. Community service is a norm expected in these competitive schools. It is possible like it is possible for me to transfer to my dream school of Harvard University from San Diego Mesa College. All and all find out if you really want to go to those schools did you go on a visit? I read that someone got into a prestigious school from transferring from a community college even though he failed two classes then retook them meaning that I believe if you want it do whatever it takes to get in.
Just KILL the ACT and you will be good.
I really appreciate that you guys. Both of you give me such a comprehensive and useful response. I will try me best, do whatever it takes to get in my dream school. Thank you very much for encouraging me.
I believe you will have more chances in schools which put much less weight on the freshman year. Luckily you live in an state which has some of the best of such schools (UCs) with much less cost for you, than those privates which you are interested in!
So may be you should consider them as good alteratives as well?
I’d suggest you broaden your horizon. Focus on finding a ‘good college’ rather than fixating on just 2 . There are hundreds of schools in the US that can provide you with a very good education and solid job prospects.
A 2.9 while learning English is a very good start. One step at a time… do your best, take an appropriate curriculum and everything will work out fine. Be careful about AP classes until you’ve got a better handle on the language. Keep at it and an appropriate path will emerge. (Even a CC is viable).
@ne0nw0lf you are delusional. According to their Common Data Set, Harvard accepted 13 transfer applicants last year. No doubt each had a unique and compelling story and and impeccable academic record. I don’t know if that describes you or not but, wanting, dreaming and trying won’t float you application to the top of their stack.

Good luck to you both.
Thank you, all of you who replied me. I really appreciate that. I think I lost my confidence this morning so I posted this question on this website, I was just hoping there could be someone encouraging me like you guys. I will do my best to have a good gpa for sophomore year. And I’ll talk with my parents about colleges. Thank you all very very much
