what if my GPA drops below 3.0 at Cal?

<p>I’ve recently been accepted to Cal as a junior transfer student. I applied as a psy major, but now I wish to transfer to the college of Natural Resources to be a nutrition major. When I called Cal, they said this was not possible. But I’ve heard students at other universities transferring colleges. Are they just saying this to me over the phone? Do I have a chance of switching majors and colleges once I get to the university?</p>

<p>Right now, I am deciding between Cal Berkeley and UNC-CH. I am really having a hard time deciding where to go. I am really intiminated by Cal and when I visited it seemed to be a very “cold” place. Am I wrong?
I dont know if I can keep my GPA up…if by GPA drops below a 3.0 is it going to still help me in the future?</p>

<p>the average gpa at uc berk is a 3.2 i think. With that in mind, you can switch majors, but I dont know about switching colleges. The problem here is that when u applied as a transfer student, you appled into a certain college, not your major. At this moment in time, you are undeclared at the arts and sciences, but when u get there in the fall, you will need to declare your major, which means u have a chance to switch majors, but not colleges.</p>

<p>it is possible to switch colleges after your first semster at CAL, it usually requires a GPA of at least a 3.0 and an attendance to a seminar about that college. If you choose to go to berkeley I’m sure it will all work out :]</p>

<p>thanks for the assurance. People just love giving you the run-around and it can be quite frustrating…but thats life! I guess I will take my chances. I have to take a chem and human physiology/anatomy course before getting into nutrition dept. Do you rec any professors?</p>

<p>go to pickaprof.com and see which profs teach the courses you need to take and you can see their grade distribution curves</p>

<p>Yeah, after your first semester, but what about for a transfer student? I’m not sure if the same applies. For example, I know that in order to switch into engineering you have to apply freshman or sophomore year. After that they’re pretty stubborn about not letting students from other colleges in. CNR might do something similar.</p>

<p>We’re not trying to give you the run-around. Frankly, the Berkeley rep you called probably has more credibility than random posters on the CC forum. Add that to Berkeley’s sometimes dumbfounding policies and it’s very hard for me to give you “reassurance that everything will turn out okay.” Try contacting L&S and CNR, you’ll probably get better answers. Most of us don’t have any experience with this. Berkeley’s really getting down on people who take forever to decide on a major, as shown by new advising programs they’re pushing and the recent unit cap policy. Maybe they’ll let you switch colleges. Maybe you’ll have to pester them a lot. Maybe you can work out some kind of double-major. Just be aware that you might not be able to switch colleges and go in with that mindset.</p>
