I am applying to Mt. San Jacinto College. They want me to pick from a list of majors. Political science isn’t listed. Do I pick legal assitent or history? Thanks.

Does Mt. San Jacinto College offer a major in political science? If not, then it will certainly not be your major if you attend. Pick a major they offer that you would be interested in pursuing.

why are you applying to a college that doesn’t have the major that you want? This indicates poor research of schools on your part.

They do have political science. I did extensive research on this school. It is just that under their major catagory for their online application, political science isn’t listed. They have political science classes. I just don’t understand why it isn’t listed. I figured maybe they want me to narrow it down to legal studies or something correlative.

I don’t see political science. How does this work? Do I pick courses that are required for a political science major? What major on that list do I pick in the mean-time?

Answer: call them

Having classes in a subject is not the same thing as offering a major in it. From the list you’ve given, this is more of a career school than a liberal arts school; they also don’t have English, History, Philosophy, pure sciences like bio or chem, etc. Are you sure this is what you are looking for? Agree you need to talk to them.

MSJC is a community college which, for most typical college majors, provides only the first two years of instruction mainly in general education courses, after which you need transfer to a four year college to complete any degree. In other words, political science is not an actual major that can lead to any degree from the college itself and thus it, and others mentioned above, will not be on the list. As political science is considered one of several “social sciences,” your choice is “Social and Behavioral Science.”
