What if you fail a class that does not matter?

My friend convinced me to take beginning yearbook, its basically not even an art credit. I have no idea what to do in there, theres some dumb project, but nobody knows what to do, and somehow they manage to grade us. I have like a C in there right now, and there is a big chance i’ll fail the class or get like a D. I’m a junior right now.
So will it be a problem in future? Do admission officers only look at your GPA or they actually look at the classes you took and grades you got in there?

They look at your transcript, so if that class if on your transcript it will look extremely bad. It is a reflection of your work ethic and admissions officers don’t seem to show much lenience just because you weren’t sufficiently challenged.

well, a fail is a fail, and thatd gonna hurt

they look at both becasue they like to see an upward trend as far as grades and they like to see that you are taking the most challenging courses and doing well.

If your school ranks and gives an over all gpa, taking a D will kill bboth of these. Try to turn things around in the time you have left.

Every class counts.

Of course, an A in AP English will impress adcoms more than an A in yearbook, but the D will look bad no matter what. Talk to the teacher and find out how you can raise your grade before the end of the year.

It still goes in your GPA… And besides, i think failing that class will look worse than failing AP Physics or something. (<- i mean everybody knows AP physics is hard)

It can hurt you big time because the college will fear that you’ll blow off college courses that don’t interest you. (No matter what you decide to major in, sometimes you’ll have to take some courses that you lack much interest in).

Just cause the class doesn’t matter to you or your graduation isn’t hinging on you passing it doesn’t mean that colleges aren’t looking at it. Especially senior year classes, they want to see students that don’t just slack off at the end.

main thing is, sincen u took it, it matters and thus u gotta pass
