Im trying to transfer into UC irvine
for international studies. I go to LACC and assist says that i dont have any prerequisites
to complete for transfer. So i just transfer with my GE?

I would suggest if there actually are 0 prereqs that you try to take coursework within the major. You should contact the department to get their advisement on how best to proceed.

http://internationalstudies.ss.uci.edu/is_undergrad_major_req

There are definitely plenty of major prereqs for that major, I just double checked at Assist. Just few are: poli sci 7, econ 1 and 2, anthro 102 or poli sci 2, math 265 and 227, etc.

Which CC are you attending? You can pretty much go into any LACC in Assist, they are all connected, so if I can’t find one major prereq at one LACC, I go check another one to find it.

@fullload LACC is a school in Hollywood @songpandalei check the link out.

What I meant is any school within the LA community college district. They are all on the same prereq system. LACC is within that district.

I thought he was saying, Los Angeles Community College, but either way, Los Angeles City College is within the same district and those prereqs apply.

The link @uclammg attached shows a whole lot of pre-requisites and almost all have matching classes at your CC, @songpandalei. It seems like you might not totally understand the process. You should definitely connect with a counselor. Also, if you plan to apply to any other UC, check the requirements there as well, as they probably will not be the same. Sometimes you might have to pick another major at another UC. So be on top of that to get maximum bang from your eventual application.

hmm I see. Thank you for your replies. Very helpful indeed!!

But what does this mean: ====International Studies, B.A.====
“This major does not require completion of prerequisites for admission as a
transfer student.”

I dont have to finish the prerequisites??

Some majors won’t consider you without completing all prereqs. Some majors will allow you to complete after transfer. To be competitive, you should still complete as many as possible if not all.

Oh… I see. Thanks again. Reply was quick and helpful.

Yeah, that statement is above most majors and I think it’s pretty misleading. Sure, you can not finish those prereqs, but dozens of other students who do will get in before you, and your chances will be slim without completing them, or coming very close. Talk to your counselor asap.

They should really remove that.

Then do the Carlton dance.

But talk to your counselor, see what they have to say.

Yes agree with @2016Candles and @fullload . It is confusing, but it basically means if not all finished they’ll still consider. Some majors say unless all are completed they won’t even look at your application. But do as many as possible, as they will probably use that to weed out the underachievers.

Also, you will most likely get better grades taking them at the CC, and will save a year of tuition you’d have to pay if taking them at a UC.
