k assume a student with bad grades has the “uniqueness” [plus the scores and reccs] that Stanford is looking for [bad grades = trauma & drama]. will Stanford dismiss the grades or will Stanford dismiss the student???

and I was just wondering… Does anyone NORMAL go to Stanford?? Do Normal people get into Stanford at all?? When I say normal I mean someone who hasn’t done 5 years of research with some scientist or professor…someone who hasn’t been named with a prestigious title…etc.

I’m imagining that pretty much everyone who goes to Stanford is extraordinary in some way or another, even if that’s just getting a 4.0 UW with 12 APs in a competitive high school and being president of 3 clubs.

Yes, normal people do get in. They usually have excellent grades and scores, and are able to show through essays and ECs that they have an interesting personality.

Nothing “dismisses” grades, ever. Sometimes great ECs can make you more competitive, as long as you still have good grades, but nothing just completely dismisses your grades. I wish…

Yeah about normal thing the answer is YES normal people do get in. I’ve never done any research with any professor or been named a prestigious title and I got in. However I would like to point out that even though I haven’t done any of the things you name of I am the top in my class and I did have amazing (I mean absolutely brilliant) recommendations from two of my teachers and the school itself. Also I had good ECs and essays. SO if by normal you mean someone who hasn’t done any research with any scientist and who hasn’t been on the news the answer is Yes there are. If you mean someone who is an ‘average’ student (grades are par with the rest of the class) the the answer would probably be no to very very little.
Hope that helps :)
