I’ve been told its less than a 33, is that true? I’ve found varying reports from ACT’s official chart which says its in the 34 range, teachers and others who say its exactly 33 or less. Just wanted complete clarification.
The 2220 is superscored BTW (all my colleges superscore though), highest in one sitting I got is 2180. What would that be on the ACT?
very low end of 34, highest end of 33.
Google: ACT SAT equivalence
Based on a study done jointly by ACT and SAT using 2006 and 2007 scores of persons who took both tests, SAT and ACT released in 2008 tables showing equivalent scores, called concordance tables. You can find them by just searching for SAT ACT concordance tables. It is those tables upon which all published equivalency tables that you will find on line are based.
As stated by both SAT and ACT, their concordance tables are guidelines and not rules that have to be followed by colleges. Those concordance tables are now close to eight years old and may not reflect what would be equivalent scores today. Also, many colleges which do equivalency evaluations between SAT and ACT scores use more recent data and use data based on their own applicant pools over the years rather than nationwide data provided by the concordance tables that are based on national data (both SAT and ACT actually suggest that it would be better for colleges to do that). Thus, when you phrase your question in a form that seeks some exact equivalency between ACT and SAT scores, you cannot actually get a definite answer except one that says a 2220 is likely in the same range as a 33 and possibly as high as a 34 ACT or as low as a 32, that any particular college may have data it relies on to indicate the equivalency may be a little different from that, and, in the case of many colleges, no equivalency evaluation is even done; instead, they have a range they use for ACT scores and one they use for SAT scores. Moreover, particularly for many colleges that superscore SATs and not ACTs, you are likely tio find middle 50% ranges of those admitted that indicate a somewhat higher SAT is needed than the equivalent ACT scores derived from the concordance tables.
The ACT Composite gets converted to the SAT CR+M score (out of 1600), while the ACT English/Writing score gets converted to the SAT Writing score (out of 800).
34 ACT Composite = 1510 SAT CR+M
33 ACT Composite = 1460 SAT CR+M
@drusba I see, thanks for the detailed clarification.
@basedchem Yeah that’s what I assumed was the case, don’t regret not taking the ACT if that’s true.
@goldenbear2020 That would put my 1480 in between I guess.
Basically, from what I can tell, if you HAVE to compare ACT with SAT, then my score is at least a solid 33 but there isn’t a unified hard data system that all unis are known to use to compare it like that.
Thanks for the help!
