I wish to write young adult fiction. Do you think this would help my writing career at all, or is it worthless?

It’s probably has a negative value. Your writing career will be based on how well you write, not on an accumulative of certificates and degrees. What kind of school is offering this – a community college?

The certificate per se won’t help you; actually doing the work that leads to the certificate–presumably, reading excellent children’s literature carefully–might be a good idea. It is always helpful to have a sense of the tradition within which you plan to work.

Possibly the certificate would be useful in applying for some jobs, e.g. chidren’s librarian, buyer in a bookstore, but I can’t imagine it’s really necessary for those either.

That doesn’t even make any god damn sense. The certificate isn’t imaginary.

IamPos, I meant that the certificate isn’t a job qualification, on the order of, say, a computer technician certificate, which employers might require for certain jobs. I took the OP to be asking whether it might be.
