I’ve heard a lot about them.

A cherub is a partcipant in one of NU’s National High School Intitute (NHSI) summer programs. NHSI and the nickname have a long history.

ahaha… what a funny/cute question. i always knew that it was one of the summer pgoram student but i never knew/questioned why that nickname came about!

well, i was a cherub last summer, and the story they told us was that one day in like the 1940’s, two of the program’s directors were in their office, and a group of the kids were hanging out outside, it was sunny, they were running around or whatever, and one of the directors says, “How sweet, they looking like little cherubs” (or something to that effect…) and the other director smiles and says, “Cherubs they ain’t” and i guess the nickname just stuck
