What is a competitive GPA to transfer to UCI Econ division?

I’m currently enrolled at a ccc and my GPA right now is about a 3.2

I am going to apply for enrollment in Fall 2006 (which I’ll do this November) and at that time I’m probably going to bring my GPA up to about 3.3 (I’m taking summer classes, and am going to work my a** off to get A’s)

So my question is, what is a competitive GPA to be accepted to UCI’s Economics division? And if anyone knows, how about CSU Long Beach? What GPA do they require? I’m thinking about using that as a last resort in case I don’t get into any UC’s.

Im going to have three semesters between the time I apply and the time I actually attend. Can I tell them that I plan to bring my GPA up in the following semesters?

Also, I had a pretty dreadful start in college, and I just finished retaking some classes and fixing my GPA. (It was horrible before this semester). So will UCI and other universities look at my previous grades (the ones I retook?) and count them negatively towards my application?

I know this is a lot of questions, but I really need help. One last question: they require two upper level math courses (190 and 191) but to take those courses I have to take 170 and 180 first, so I plan on taking 190 in Winter and 191 in Spring 2006. This is acceptable, right? I won’t have them done when I apply, but I will have them done by the time of attendance. Is this OK?

Thanks in advance.

All the UCs take your FALL grades into consideration (fall 05 if you apply for fall 06), but not your spring (06).
You can talk about how you started out rocky and have improved to prominence in your personal statement. They will count the
retakes for the purpose of your GPA. They also like to see positive grade trends.

Yes, it’s entirely acceptable to finish the requirements in the spring before enrollment but not the summer.

What CCC do you go to? What’s the deal with CCCs with quarters…I used to think they all worked on the semester system.

[bump]

I can use a bit more help here…

UCI has a very high admission rate. Even for competitive majors like econ. You’ll get in.

UCI shouldn’t be that hard…my friend got into UCI in Bio for 3.2
