Is there a traditional hook that is always good to use at the end of the intro paragraph?

"Please don't fall asleep halfway, because my essay is really interesting. Trust me."

Nope. Your intro depends entirely on the subject and structure of the rest of your essay. In most cases, I recommend a broad statement that is mildly interesting and relate it to a specific thesis.

^ i agree... depends on subject

No such thing as a good hook. They teach you that there are good methods when you're in 8th grade or so, but those are elementary and remedial. A well-developed, high-level essay will go far beyond any formula.

Please do not start your essay off with a question, or "catchy" phrase. What they teach you up until after you are freshmen is completely base level. Professional essays are never seen to include these hooks, so get out of the habit. As the above poster said, a well-thought out intro which clearly introduces the topic is much better than turning an essay into a joke. Good luck!

Don't aim for being quirky or witty. Just be honest and get your point across. Hopefully, your personality will shine through by doing that.
